Overview of an Event That Did Not Happen

This year’s edition of the Histoire et Cité 2020 Festival – scheduled between the 1st and the 5th of April in Geneva and Lausanne - was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Interestingly, the theme around which the programme was built became a staggering reality: fear. Architect and independent art historian Matthieu Jaccard was initially invited to provide an overview of the Lausanne part of the event. Instead, he led conversations with several scientists and artists who were unable to deliver their talks, in order to not only establish ties between the subjects that were supposed to be discussed – which ranged from the fear of wolves to the rise of populism, as well the ecological crisis – but also to connect the knowledge of such experts with this current period of particular uncertainty.
