Arlt (France)
"Soleil Enculé" (The Sun Is an Asshole): the title is pretty straightforward. In their fifth album, French pop-rock-folk group Arlt managed to create a sound that combines summer freshness with the sneaking suspicion that something fishy is going on. Composed of nine tracks, Soleil Enculé conjures up a childlike world for adults and takes its audience for an exhilarating ride filled with melancholy and desire. The sensuous voice of Eloïse Decazes paired with Sing Sing’s vocals take wild and often unexpected turns, whilst complementing the sugary sweet melody supplied by percussion, guitars and violins.
